(Ecofin Agency) – The Algerian market of the Internet will soon be enriched with a new service provider (Fai) which will bring a diversity in fixed deals offered by Algeria Telecom and accentuate web access in the country. Christened Comtal, it will be based in the city of Oran, reports the information website of Algerie-focus.com. The project, which is still in preparation phase (the commercial launch has not yet been set), however already received approvals interests of different shareholders.
The new Fai will be majority owned by the incumbent operator of telecommunications Algeria Telecom telecommunications at 55%. The company’s other shareholders are Sonatrach 20%, Sonelgaz with 20% share and SNTF with 5% of shares. Algerie-focus.com says Comtal will propose hosting offers, ADSL subscriptions and internet deals by WIMAX. In addition to its ISP activities Comtal will allow other operators to become mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).
In 2015, Algeria has registered 2,264,400 Internet subscribers to fixed 16,319,027 mobile subscribers. The arrival of a new operator should increase the number of Internet users in the city of Oran and its surroundings, but also throughout the country.
