This will be the first time the event will be holding outside Nigeria in the eleven years the event has taken place.
Meanwhile the nominations gala event has taken place on Saturday June 20th at the glamorous LA Live complex in Downtown Los Angeles where the nominees in the 26 categories were announced.
Part of the activities for the nomination gala night was a live music show by Nigeria’s soulful singer, Asa and her band as well as a fashion show featuring top fashion labels all in a bid to showcase the best of Africa’s music and fashion to the rest of the world.
Some Hollywood film makers including actors and actresses joined their African counterparts which include: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, O.C Ukeje, Kunle Afolayan, and Emem Isong amongst others.
The Chief Executive Officer of AMAA, Dayo Ogunyemi said that the leadership of the award body decided to take the nominations event to Hollywood this year to begin the concrete step of taking African cinema to the home of global cinema for a mutually and economically viable cooperation.
