The trial of Hissene Habre will begin on July 20. Chadian Mahamat-Saleh Haroun has paid close attention to the dark years of his country.
The Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun has just finished editing for Grand Format frame of the Franco-German channel Arte a film on the Habré regime. This documentary feature, tentatively titled Hissène Habré, a Chadian tragedy, should be released in October or November, before the end of the trial of the former dictator in Dakar.
It means above all giving voice to the victims of this regime – and scrupulously respect it, unlike, he says, in most of the works carried out so far on the subject, generally by Westerners. The filmmaker should then return to fiction. He is currently writing with the Cameroonian novelist Leonora Miano a scenario centered on the fate of refugees seeking asylum in France.
