In June, Lagos stopped in Paris for the 4th edition of Nollywood Week. Honoring the Nigerian cinema, the festival opens Thursday, June 2 and will last until Sunday.
The CEO, the highly anticipated film
Scheduled opening of the festival at 8:30 pm, The CEO is one of the most anticipated films. Among the actors include the sponsor of the 4th edition, Angélique Kidjo. The Beninese singer, who recently received a Grammy Award for her latest album, plays Dr. Zimmerman, the lead role of the film directed by the Nigerian Kunle Afolayan.
This feature film with a pan-African distribution depicts the story of a seminar gone awry. This must lead to the appointment of the new CEO of a multinational telecommunications. But executives gathered for the occasion disappear one by one in mysterious ways … The official release is expected on the African continent for the month of July.
Nollywood or made in Nigeria film
Driven by the association Okada Media, the Nollywood Week honors the Nigerian film industry for four days in Paris. Contraction of “Nigeria” and “Hollywood”, Nollywood has now exceeded production of Hollywood films, with some 2000 films produced annually.
Striving to erase a reputation for poor quality films, the festival opens for the first time the competition for short films. Seven will be screened in the Parisian hall of l’ Arlequin, among the 14 films selected by a professional jury.
The program also included musical performances as well as seminars and workshops dedicated to the world of African cinema. The festival will end on Sunday with the presentation of the Nollywood Audience Award, which rewards the best talent.
