The People to People (P2P) International Documentary Conference has announced that the 5th edition of the documentary speak-easy will be hosted in partnership with the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) for the first time on 21 and 22 July 2015.
Since 2007, the biannual conference has offered the continent’s documentary community a dedicated platform to share knowledge, build networks and debate the art, business and technology of documentary making from an African perspective within a global context.
Leading P2P once more is celebrated filmmaker and activist Rehad Desai who intends a programme focused around documentaries with a clear social message and goal. The event will feature some of the world’s leading documentary impact experts and funders. On the partnership with DIFF Desai says, “Moving to Durban to partner with South Africa’s premiere film event opens up a world of possibility for P2P. We believe this consolidates our respective organisations’ commitment to strengthen and develop documentary practice on the continent, allowing us to serve this most vulnerable yet critical genre more effectively.”
DIFF director Pedro Pimenta adds, “DIFF warmly welcomes P2P onto its list of organisational partners. This collaboration cements a long standing collegial relationship and we hope to develop the initiative’s scope and ambition in years to come.”
P2P 2015 is supported by The SA-UK Seasons 2014-15, The Bertha Foundation and The Ford Foundation. Its organisational partners include The Channel Four Britdoc Foundation, The Documentary Filmmakers Association (SA) and The Association for Transformation of Film and Television (SA).
