Marrakech – The official selection of the 15th edition of the International Film Festival of Marrakech (4-12 December) is representative of a diversified global cinema, where only the quality of the films matters, said Sarim Fassi Fihri, Deputy President Delegate of the Festival Foundation.
“The editorial policy of the festival has remained the same for 15 years: a world cinema, diverse and where only the quality of films justifies their selection,” he said, in an interview with MAP, ensuring that “every year, we try to ensure that all regions of the world are represented on the condition that the films are interesting and of good quality “. Also the 2015 selection reflects this vocation with 33 nationalities, representing around 93 movies and “on the 15 films in competition, seven are first works”, says Fassi Fihri, who is also Director of the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM). If quality is paramount, the choice depends in fact, he said, on two other criteria: “the directors who have first or second works, although this criterion is not exclusive and finally, a geographical balance: we will not have, for example, two Danish films or two South Korean films …. “.
In his opinion, the Marrakech Festival is therefore required as a “talent scout” especially since many filmmakers selected in Marrakech, meet Oscar winners and nominees at the Oscars, he noted.
