“The first Senegalese film festival dedicated to women, free and open to all! Created in 2003, the AFRICAN WOMEN FILM festival, is back for a second edition full of promise and beautiful cinematic encounters.
This year, the festival will be sponsored by the actress Maimouna Ndiaye, awarded for her performance in the film The eye of the storm, at the Fespaco 2015.
This major cultural event gives Dakar people the opportunity to watch thirty shorts, feature films and documentaries on African Women made by Africans. Organized around the theme “Women and Work, Women and Emigration”, MOVIES AFRICA WOMEN FESTIVAL cares to highlight the courage and determination of these African women that work and that sometimes have to go abroad to feed their families. Thanks to the free screenings, debates and conferences throughout the city of Dakar and its suburbs, the AFRICAN WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL will aim to inform and educate the Dakar population to current social realities. Kaolack, Rufisque, Thies and Louga will also host screenings!
This beautiful initiative, supported since inception by large institutions such as the Ministry of Culture of Senegal, the Embassy of France in Senegal and many others, is primarily intended to enhance, but also help African cinema move one more step towards its Senegalese public.
