It is on the theme “Europe Day”, placed under the sign of humour and relaxation, that the traditional Europe Day takes place in Brazzaville from 17 to 21 May 2016. The programme included a week of screenings involving European and African films with sessions every day at 16.30 and 19.30.
The inaugural screening of this film week was held May 17 in IFC’s Savorgnan de Brazza hall in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union in the Republic of Congo, Saskia de Lang and his counterpart from France, Jean-Pierre Vidon.
The theme of this film week was selected by the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Congo to commemorate the Schuman declaration, founding act of European construction signed on 9 May 1950. During the week, lovers of the 7th art will become familiar with one of the common denominators of the member countries of the European Union, namely: culture in all its plurality and based on shared values of freedom and democracy.
In his address, Saskia de Lang, said that for this year 2016, it was decided to innovate, with a “festival of European and African film” placed under the sign of humour and relaxation. Thus, five comedies will afford the viewers an idea of the richness and vitality of European cinema, including universal laughter and willingness to share. Four classics of African cinema, revealing the talents of the continent have been associated.
“The cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Congo will be honoured through the now traditional “Forum des projets.” About thirty projects of carrier organizations funded by the European Union in Congo will introduce you to their stands their concrete actions in the country and the diversity of this partnership together and to the benefit of Congolese. We have in mind to offer you a festive and convivial moment through a range of activities that we hope will help you better understand Europe and better appreciate it,” said the ambassador of European Union in Congo.
Speaking in turn, the Ambassador of France in Congo, Jean-Pierre Vidon, welcomed all the spectators in the audience who, he said, agreed to share his last public appearance in Congo -Brazzaville, at the time where he is completing his mission. The French diplomat for whom the country had to open the series of film screenings, presented the film in the spotlight: “Comme un avion ” by Bruno Polydades (2015- France).
