The “Mokolo” website dedicated to African cinema offers to strengthen the film industry and media in Africa by improving accessibility and visibility of professionals and content, through various sections and several features, was launched yesterday in Dakar.
To promote the sector of the African film industry, the “Mokolo” site, launched yesterday, provides film enthusiasts the richness of African cinema. At least that is the goal that has set this new platform. Indeed, “Mokolo” has the aim of improving accessibility and visibility by promoting various films made by the African continent or in the diaspora who have a relationship with Africa. The site claims to Pan-African. “The Mokolo project centralises information on African cinema and give more visibility to filmmakers and their content,” said Espera Donouvossi, head of “Mokolo” project. At the same time, the initiators want to promote access to new technologies in the field of cinema and audiovisual, through research, development and education.
The new site offers various services through the online sharing of information and exchange on African cinema between film actors. In reality, “mokolo.net” has an approach based on the contribution of its partners. The head of the site’s program explains: “Site policy depends first of all on the partners who make the website content that we network with them to reuse their content which will be of use to Mokolo.” The site is available in three platforms, that of the African film professionals, that concerning the use of the new information technologies and that dedicated completely to the information. The first is a framework for exchange for professionals, the second contributes to the training of young people. “We set up a platform where people can self-train through the videos and we planned physical training in five regions to give more visibility to the site,” promised Espera Donouvossi. And the last, “Mokolo TV” is for movie lovers. This is the part dedicated to the VoD and the general public information on the African film industry and the Diaspora. Mokolo.tv is ideal for access to African content or that related to Africa with other sites or channels dedicated to African cinema.
For a structure that will boost African film industry, Mokolo intends to expand its coordination offices to virtually everywhere across the continent.
