“BeninDocs-Festival International du Premier Film Documentaire” is an initiative of Africadoc Benin to sustain the diffusion of the first feature documentaries towards the public and to support the young filmmakers. Lead by a different thematic at each edition, the Festival also choose authors and filmmakers who have already made movies. The opening always takes place in Porto-Novo during November, then the festival moves between Paris, Cotonou and Porto-Novo. Thanks to the thematics, BeninDocs is a festival that is also open to other artistic fields.
Sponsored by the french journalist and scriptwriter Marie-Noëlle HIMBERT, this year the thematic is “Woman facing inequalities…A different look”. This topic deals with documentaries that question the status of woman in this day and age, and on the other hand that shows methods to improve and eradicate these inequalities. Benindoc 2015 wants to use documentaries as another way to meet the full-diversity of woman and thus open a new perspective of dialogue, which is essential to the sustainability of our societies.
The chosen documentaries show sad life trajectories where women prefer dying rather than living a life of suffering and some others chose the law of silence. In every situation they converge to a self-annihilation while the whole aim is not to escape from being a woman but rather to gather people to get out of these unacceptable conditions.
The Festival will take place from 11 to 18 November, in Porto-Novo, Cotonou and Paris.
