(Ecofin Agency) – The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to establish a university specialised in ICT. The goal is to increase the capacities of young Nigerians in the information technology sector and communication, essential to their social and professional fulfillment in a world that is becoming digital.
The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, revealed on May 27, 2016, during the awareness day on ICT held in Abuja for high school students by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Totalview Nigeria. The day was organised as part of the commemoration of the day of the child in Nigeria.
According to the Minister of Communications, University of ICT, when established, will have a campus in each of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The courses that will be offered there will be strictly focused on ICT. Monisola Udoh, director of ICT at the Ministry of Communications, explained that this modern age, when the world has become a global village, it is important that Nigerian students develop ICT skills.
Recognising the importance of instilling the ICT knowledge to young Nigerians from their earliest age, the Ministry of Communications announced that he will soon equip all secondary schools of the country in technology.
