Queen of Katwe, by the American director Mira Nair, from the screenplay by William Wheeler (The Hoax) adapted from the book by Tim Crothers is a Hollywood production that tells the story of a young Ugandan. Indeed, Nalwanga aged 10, lives with his family in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda. The efforts of his mother Harriet (Lupita) who, like millions of other African women fight daily for the survival of their families, will be rewarded. In fact, his 10-year-old daughter who was hitherto anonymous becomes world champion of chess.
A constellation of stars that’s how the actors of the film should be qualified. David Oyelowo selected at the Golden Globes with the film Selma, and the winner at the Oscars and selected at the Tony Awards Lupita Nyong’o in her film 12 years a slave, are the cream of African cinema. Alongside them, there is the young new Madina Nalwanga which may in his turn win an Oscar for this first-time role.
September 23, 2016 has been booked for the official release.
