Registrations for the selection of films from the 25th edition of the Pan African Film Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco) scheduled to hold from 25 February to 4 March 2017 are open, APA learns from its organisers.
For this biennial of African cinema, film and audiovisual professionals are concerned with two sections.
The official competition section reserved for African filmmakers and the Diaspora, includes the fiction feature film categories, short fiction, documentary, television series, African film film schools.
The out of competition section for its part, reserved for films of filmmakers of the world (Africa seen by …, discoveries).
Around the theme “Education and film industry and the audiovisual sector” , FESPACO 2017 proposes to offer a varied programme that focuses on the selection of films, the 18th African International Film and Television Market (MICA) and professional meetings (conferences, round tables, master classes …), focused on ways to qualitatively derive profit from the African film business.
As an innovations, the Festival will confirm the participation of films from the African diaspora at the Etalon de Yennega, in the short film, documentary and television series; and the acceptance of digital movies at the Etalon de Yennega.
The festival was created in 1969 atthe initiative of a group of film enthusiasts, including François Bassolet, Claude Prieux and Alimata Salembere who was the first president in 1969 and 1970.
Soon, it became a major event in the cultural life of Burkina Faso, making Ouagadougou, the capital of African cinema.
In the last edition in 2015, out of 720 films sent in, FESPACO has picked 134 films for its official selection into five sections, including 19 feature films for the Etalon de Yennega, the highest distinction.
