The Sidi Othmane Film Festival, Mohammed Bastaoui edition, ended last Sunday at Moulay Rachid Cultural Complex in Casablanca, in the presence of many Moroccan filmmakers and actors. Despite her professional commitments, the wife of the deceased Basatoui, Souad Nejjar, also an comedian, wanted to attend the closing film of this event.
Several short films made by young talents, were in the official competition of the festival. They included among others “La pleine voix» by Nabil Lahouir, “Saveur de pommes” by Idriss El Bayn, “Danse de la mort” by Arika El Akil, or still “La trace” by Ismael Laouej. The jury, for its part, composed of the director Hassan Ghounja, the film lover Jilali Boujou, one of the excutives of Federation of Film Clubs in Morocco, and the journalist Jamal Malhani.
Let’s note that the grand prize of the festival was awarded to the film “Saveur de pommes” by Iriss El Bayn. According to Hassan Ghounja, this film was awarded for its artistic quality and the quality of its screenplay. The audience award has, meanwhile, was awarded to the young director Asmae El Moudir for his film “Bout à bout”, while the Special Jury Prize, named Mustapha Mesnaoui this year after the Moroccan film lover and writer who recently, was awarded to filmmaker Hicham Regragui.
The festival’s opening on Thursday, April 14 was marked by the screening of “L’orchestre des aveugles” by Mohamed Mouftakir. According to organizers, the screening of the film “was no accident, given its artistic quality.” They also screened “Petits bonheurs” by Mohamed Cherif Tribak to close the festival as encouragement of a film lover that was formed in the Federation of Film Clubs in Morocco. It will be recalled that Festival is organized by the film club of Sidi Othmane, headed by Abdelhak Mabchour, and with the support of the national commission’s support of the organization of festivals and film events.
