(Ecofin Service) – In South Africa, Kagiso Media Group announces the closure of the TV channel Glow. It will not be available on TV platforms as from 30 June 2016.
Glow TV has existed for less than 3 years. It was launched in November 2013 and was integrated into the production company Urban Brew Studios (UBS) which belongs to Kagiso Media. It was the first TV channel launched by the largest group of media owned by blacks in South Africa.
The CEO of UBS, Trish Taylor, said that the economic situation no longer allows the adventure of Glow TV channel to continue. On the part of the CEO of Kagiso Media, Mark Harris, he said that the decision had not been easy one but was necessary for the good of the group. “We are engaged in a great TV business, but we must also ensure that the business models serve the good of the group,” he declared.
Glow is a free TV channel that had to live on advertising.
However, UBS production company will continue to produce content for TV partners in Africa and the world. Trish Taylor thanked viewers, advertisers and satellite distribution platforms for their support.
