“It is now the date selected for the festival,” said Saïd Ould Khelifa, the festival commissioner, at a press conference in the Blue Room of the National Library of El Hamma in Algiers.
In addition to feature films, the competition will be open to documentaries. “For short films, the competition will be national. It is a way to encourage young filmmakers and Producers who want to start a career in the field of cinema. We will open a new section, Film Pocket, dedicated to films made by smartphones. The application form will be posted tomorrow on the festival site,” he announced.
Algerian filmmakers Ahmed Mohamed and Lakhdar Hamina Rachedi, will be honored at the 2nd Festival. Other names of foreign artists will be added after confirmation.
The next edition will also be marked by the organization of a “lesson” in cinema. “A filmmaker will present one of his films and explain all stages of its production,” he said. As of January 2, 2016, a scenario scholarship will be open. The best projects will be selected and there will be a rewriting workshop.
The idea is to get to prepare scenarios that meet industry standards. Workshops will also be organized on the roles of image and sound (from March 2016) and for film critics (during the festival).
