We announced in the last article about the implementation of the Mokolo Portal, that the months from July to December would be dedicated to the design and testing of the Mokolo.net platform, the development of the Mokolo.pro platform and the work on our Open Educational Resources.
THE DATA SHARING
We have implemented a tool for visualizing Mokolo data, for exporting them and for importing users’ own data into Mokolo (a feature only available for moderators).
MOKOLO.NET (Mokolo.tv)
The web design team consists of a front-end developer and a website designer.
The front-end developer’s work consists of creating a prototype for the information and database platform on Mokolo.net:
– The database of Films, Series, Directors and VOD platforms
– User space, including a news feed and a space for contributions
– The moderation space, allowing a team of moderators to manage the content published on the platform.
The designers were in charge of creating the trends boards and integrated them into the prototype, that then allowed the realization of the design graphics. Once validated, these boards were integrated into the prototype and delivered to the team of developers in Dakar, for the final integration onto the platform.
Following this work, user tests were conducted to gather feedback (opinions, difficulties, appropriateness of functionality etc) from a panel / variety of users.
MOKOLO.PRO
Mokolo pro is the platform dedicated to networking
This is mainly the back-end developers team (python) in Cameroon, who was in charge of its development.
Predefined features were as follows:
– Create a professional profile
– Create the organizational descriptions
– Internal messaging features
– A “Market-place” feature for creating / viewing job offers
Most of these features have been implemented and the web designers are working on the platform design.
Summary of features available on the platform mokolo.pro:
For non-registered users:
- Viewing different forms created by moderators
- Viewing a sample of professional profiles (Home, Gallery picture and Biography)
- Search features
For connected users (with an account):
Creating an account on Mokolo.pro is accompanied by an account on Mokolo.net. If the user has no account on mokolo.net, an account is automatically created. The parameters are divided between Mokolo.pro and Mokolo.net for the following fields (Username, Full name, Email, Password).
The information provided on the professional account created on the Mokolo.pro platform are:
-A Professional public profile: The professional profile is a kind of CV, that will allow users to present their work and increase their network. It is visible to all users Mokolo pro (not visible to the non-connected). On its own form, he/she will be able to edit each section of their profile.
-Header: photo, job title (based on the calculation of filmography and jobs), country, a button to recommend a professional, request a contact, send a message.
-Home profile: biography, phone, email, address social links, Awards
-Image Gallery (Already implemented on mokolo.net)
-Professional experience: Jobs can optionally be attached to a film, an organization, a project, a film school, a film festival, an opportunity, an event.

-Inbox: users can send private messages by typing the name of the user they want to contact. They can send to anyone on Mokolo pro.
-Sheets created by the moderators: Opportunities, events, organizations, film schools, projects, film festivals. Users can link their profile to an existing record. For example if a user studied at the Kampala film school, they can link their profile to the school records on mokolo.
-Users dashboard

-List of contacts: Unlike Mokolo.net (mokolo.tv), in Mokolo.pro, users must manage contacts (a process from the request to add the validation). The process is bilateral.
MOKOLO.LABS
The work of the developers in Cameroon also concern the Mokolo.labs platform, which will offer the Open Educational Resources (OER), in collaboration with XM:LAB in Germany. Its development is still ongoing.
